Wipro's HR Leader passes away
Bangalore: Ranjan N. Acharya, Corporate Vice President, Human Resources (HR) of Wipro passed away yesterday evening. The reason for the death is not yet disclosed. Siliconindia learns that Acharya was hospitalized following an infection in the body which was spread all over. He was 48 years old. He was a member of the Corporate Executive Council (CEC), the top management think tank for Wipro Corporation and also the Convener for the Strategic Leadership Development Council under the guidance of Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro. He institutionalized many leadership and management development initiatives, apart from guiding the PCMM process at both Wipro Technologies and Wipro Infotech. In his obituary note to the employees of Wipro, Premji stated, "Ranjan was a familiar face to most Wiproites - a friend, mentor and teacher. An accomplished trainer and thinker, Ranjan contributed significantly in laying the strong foundations of Wipro's leadership practices and making it amongst the best globally. He stood out as a proud Wiproite and a wonderful person." Acharya was a well known leader in the industry as well and had been a popular speaker in tech events. His colleagues and friends held him in high esteem. Vidyasagar R, Senior Director of Human Resources at EMC India Center of Excellence (COE) says, "I have worked with Ranjan while at Wipro. I have known him for over two decades. He was a powerhouse of knowledge who was always willing to share it with others. He was a great human being. I have lost one of my dear friends. It is a great loss for the HR fraternity." Remembering his association with Acharya, C Mahalingam, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, Symphony Services said, "Ranjan was a world class trainer, was gifted with matchless sense of humour, a recognized thought leader in HR and above all, an extraordinary human being!" He was among the 21 in the world to be certified by SEI and CarnegieMellon as a PCMM Lead Assessor. An M.B.A from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (1980), he started his career with TELCO (Pune) in 1980 and then moved to Wipro Infotech in 1982.
